THE TRANSPORT
TO AUSCHWITZ

Without the collaboration of the German "Reichsbahn" (railway), the realization of the " Final Solution" would not have been possible that quickly.

The map on the right side shows a survey of all railway tracks and cities where people were deported from and came to Auschwitz between March 1942 and November 1944

Mainly, the people were deported in grossly overcrowded goods waggons. Durning the trip, they had nothing to eat nor drink. The sanitary conditions were horrible - instead of a toilet there was only a pail available.

Already on the journey many people died. But the dead bodies were only taken away from the waggons when the train had reached its destination.

After the arrival, the doors were wrenched open and the deportees were ordered out of the waggons with a great shout. They had to leave their luggage in the train which was later taken to canada camp by prisoners.
