Energy
Information Administration (EIA)
This site is developed by the Department of Energy. The site is well-structured
and easy to use. The available data is impressive and together with
the nice presentation, it makes this site very useable. Not only can
you discover everything about all sorts of energy, but the EIA also
offers the economic and political context. The data dates back at
least until the first oil crisis, but some series go back until 1800.
Some of the options this site has to offer: historical data and analysis

Niederlande:
Central Statistics Bureau The site of the Dutch Bureau of Statistics
offers StatLine, an extensive statistical database on the Netherlands.
StatLine contains a lot of statistical data: about 100.000.000 numbers
organized into about 300 so-called 'publications', which are sets
of data that belong logically together (e.g. economical data or regional
data). The Internet access to StatLine offers you two methods to find
information: Via the StatLine Search Engine or via the Statistical
themes In principle Statline offers statistics ranging from 1899 till
the present. However, not all series go back that much in time. Unfurtunately
the site offers not complete English texts. Although the search-engine
can be English, the series are presented in Dutch |

Norwegen
This is a very useful site. There is a lot of information available,
recent AND historical. It is possible to start you're search via the
search-engine but it is probably easier to discover the whole range
of data via the statistics by subject. An advantage for the historian
is that this site also has a special section on Historical Statistics.
The Norwegians take there (internet)work very seriously: although
there is now already a huge amount of data for FREE online available,
but if we look at the calendar what more is to come, we can only conclude
that this site is already good, but will become better. |

USA
This is an overwhelming site! The quantity and quality of the offered
information is incredible. Name it, and they've got it. Statistics
about the environment, population, economy, etc. The data is both
recent as historical. Without a problem you can look for all data
after WWII, but you will probably also have succes with the period
before WWII. Fedstats offers several ways to find the data you want:
an A-Z index; a search-engine; or so-called fast facts. This site
makes internet worthwhile! |

Bureau
of Economic Analysis (BEA) - USA
Maintained by the Department of Commerce. The site is easy to handle
and offers both historical as recent key economic indicators. The
available data and articles (!) is diffided by subject: national,
international, regional. The articles and data can be download in
several format types. There's no search-engine available, so you'll
have to check the, well-descriped, tables. Furthermore, recently the
Survey of Current Business, BEA's monthly journal has come online.
It is possible to access the complete versions! Most articles in these
journals can also be downloaded seperately from the national, international,
and regional program listings. |

Bureau
of Labor Statistics (BTS) This site offers a huge amount of labor
data. Employment, wages, hours, prices, etc. can be retrieved via
several options. It's possible to start searching in most requested
series, but selective access enables the user to obtain the data he
specifically requests. The site moreover offers the use of a FTP server
for users requiring large volumes of Timeseries data. Remember to
choose 'all years' if you start searching for data. If you don't do
this, it might seem that there's only recent data available, while
there is also a substantial amount of historical data. E.g. about
the international price indexes, which on her turn contains special
historical tables. The Department of Labor makes with this site a
huge amount of data available, which is very useable for the historian. |
